Association COTE COUR was formed in June 2011 by Mama Koné, an Actress and a Director with the aim of contributing to improving the standard of living of women and their strong involvement in the socio-economic and cultural development of their communities. The grant awarded is to support the cost of catering for 11 women who were stranded in Bamako after an AWDF supported training due to border closure. The grant will be used to support the stranded participants’ feeding, accommodation, medical bills, and transportation back to their countries of origin and administrative cost.

Arise Integrated Development Effort (AIDE) Uganda
Arise Integrated Development Effort (AIDE) Uganda was formed in 2017 by a group of 30 women affected by and infected with HIV, single mothers and women with disabilities with an aim of using collective efforts to promote their socio-economic status. The group empowers women with knowledge of their rights, collective actions such as advocating for better HIV prevention services, inclusive sexual reproductive health services and land rights, savings mobilization and setting up enterprises. The grant will be used to collect evidence on the mental and emotional health issues affecting women living with HIV/AIDS and use that as a guide to develop a petition to duty bearers to improve community based care and support for mental and emotional health of women and girls living with HIV/AIDS.

Alliance for Africa (AfA)
Alliances for Africa (AfA) was established in 1993 in response to the apparent disorganization of the mainstream organisations in being able to link the various generations of rights such as civil with economic and social rights seen as the domain and preserve of women’s organisations. The grant will be used to deploy technology and empower and build women’s creativity in rekindling activism and synergize efforts in preventing VAWG in Nigeria.

Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMWA)
Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) was founded by African women immigrants living in the United Kingdom to create space for African women to organize autonomously, network with each other, share skills and expertise, identify issues of concern and speak for themselves. The grant will enable AMwA to deepen and scale up the current grant in strengthening young African women’s leadership capacities to contribute substantially to new forms of activism, expanding spaces, transforming pedagogies, and projecting alternatives to advance women’s rights in Africa

Agenda Feminist Media
Agenda Feminist Media was formed in 1987 to contribute to the goal of eradicating gender inequality and empowering women. Also, they aim to question and challenge current understandings and practices of gender relations while developing knowledge about how gender relations can be transformed. The journal is accredited by both the International Bibliography for the Social Sciences (IBSS) and South African Post-Secondary Education (SAPSE). The grant will be used to strengthen the capacity of women to organise, reflect on their experiences and write about themselves.

ALC was founded, in part, to increase the participation of African women in African peace, security and development processes and institutions. The ALC has produced leading research and publications, on peace and leadership studies including the Journal of Leadership and Developing Societies. The grant will be used for the Legacy Fellowship and feminist knowledge product generation of lectures, papers and a radio programme with ALC

AWIEF was founded by Irene Ochem. Her passion for female innovation, technology and entrepreneurship and her strong belief that Africa’s transformation can only be achieved through enhanced economic empowerment, strengthened economic role and leadership for its women and girls led her to found AWIEF in 2015. The grant will be used to add value to the work being done by women that are involved in green energy production by offering a business start-up and accelerator program with the intention of designing and refining business ideas; and preparing established enterprises to make them investment ready.

Action for Rural Women’s Empowerment (ARUWE),
ARUWE was started by a group of 5 Women in 2000 as Nsangi Rural Development Association (NRDA) to eliminate discriminatory practices inhibiting women’s potential in the social-economic development, particularly rural women. In 2008 NRDA transformed into ARUWE, and changed from a community-based organisation into an NGO. ARUWE’s mission is to empower Women to initiate and manage their social-economic development processes through strengthening community participation, advocacy and service provision. The purpose of the grant is to empower women in Jupangira Sub County (Nebbi District) – Uganda to be food and income secured.

Action Femme et Eco-Justice (AFECOJU)
AFECOJU is a young feminist-led organisation founded in 2016 by 5 women’s rights activists with expertise or interest in rural development. The aim of setting up the organisation was to help fight against the violence, marginalization and exclusion of women in society. The grant will be used to support AFECOJU’s activities for the 2020 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in the province of Inkisi/Kisantu – DRC. The project will use culture, arts and sports as well as movement building strategies to create awareness and a movement around the importance of ensuring women and girls’ mental health and wellbeing and the need to address VAWG.
ABANTU for Development/Lavish Design
ABANTU for Development/Lavish Design
ABANTU for Development was established in October 1991 by a group of African women from across the continent based in the United Kingdom. ABANTU Ghana empowers women to participate in decision-making at all levels, to influence policies from a gender justice perspective and to address inequalities and injustices in social relations. Abantu in partnership with Lavish design will use the grant to support the participation of 20 Ghanaian aspiring photo-journalists in the proposed cross-cultural photography workshop which would provide invaluable capacity building to their craft.
