$1,000 to undertake series of awareness raising activities on GBV in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. The event will be used as a platform to call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and children and also highlight the importance of involving men in the fight against gender based violence.

$1,000 to undertake series of educational activities to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. The project will cover 15 wards of the Kigoma-Ujiji municipality. The project will therefore contribute to the promotion of women’s rights against the predominant gender-based violence.

$10,000 to provide skills training and income generation activities for women living with HIV/AIDS and support orphans.

$10,000 to improve income generation activities of women into small scale businesses as well as to increase women’s participation in local governance.

$50,000 to enable the organization conduct a strategic plan for three years and build capacity of their staff on monitoring and evaluation as well as building capacity of women living with HIV on treatment literacy. The grant will help SWAPOL to have a clear plan that will map the organization’s priorities for the next three years and which will be informed by women’s realities on the ground.

$15,000 to print breast health information pamphlets and media campaigns; for counseling cancer survivors; refresher workshops for medical staff and rural health motivators; for client satisfaction surveys and research.

$17,400 to support winners of the Nelson Mandela – GracaMachel Innovation awards and also to enable winners to participate in the CIVICUS World Assembly 2011.

$3,500 provide support for Thandiwe Langa, the leader of the care givers at UthandoLoMama to attend and participate in the 16th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA), scheduled to be held in Addis Abbaba from 4th – 8th December, 2011.

$1,000 to create awareness around the issue of abduction and rape and forced marriages which are very rampant in some rural communities in South Africa. This gender based violence committed against young women and girls in the name of “culture” i.e. ukuthwala (abduction and rape) usually affects girls aged between 12 – 17 years who are forced into marriages.

$80,000 over two years to support the programmes and institutional development of PWN. The grant will strengthen the participation and leadership of women living with HIV&AIDS in the national response to HIV&AIDS in South Africa.
