Flone Initiative is a charitable trust in Kiambu County, Kenya which was founded in 2011 by Naomi Mwaura. The organisation was established as a result of a recognition of the need for an initiative that would improve the lives of public transport operators, create safer spaces for women, and change the ‘matatu’ industry for the better. The grant will enable Flone Initiative undertake a series of innovative activities to end the culture of violence against women in public transportation and associated spaces, promote economic opportunities for women and facilitate equal access to professional development in the sector for women.

FIDA Cameroon (International Federation of Women Lawyers)
Barrister Mrs. Marian Weledji started FIDA Cameroon in 1993. Her reason for starting it, was to promote the human rights of women and girls so as to enhance their social status and welfare. FIDA Cameroon advocates for equality, social change and promote women’s empowerment. The grant will help to eradicate violence against women and girls, through advocacy and social norm change activities in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

The Female Students Network Trust (FSNT) is a feminist organisation that was founded in 2005. It is a national organisation formed after wide consultations with female students in Tertiary Educational Institutions (TEIs) and various stakeholders. The goal of the organisation is to empower female students to challenge the multiple forms of discrimination and exclusion in TEIs. The purpose of the grant is to use FSNT’s Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and the website to educate female students on the different forms of gendered psychological violence and how to effectively avert it.

Fate Foundation is an NGO that was founded in March 2000 with the initial focus on supporting the entrepreneurial culture of Nigerians by providing business incubation, growth and accelerator support. However, the NGO has expanded its focus through a multitude of programs. The grant is to be used for a campus tour of the Awani documentary in 7 cities outside of the capital of Nigeria, and to engage with about 10,000 students on women’s leadership.

Eldoret Women for Development (ELWOFOD) is a feminist women led organisation founded in 2007 by 2 women ex-prisoners in Eldoret Langas Slum who had been convicted for 6 years for a crime they did not commit with the aim of enhancing the re-entry of women ex-inmates into their communities through economic skills development. The purpose of the grant is to empower women ex-prisoners to advocate for key stakeholders to address the causes that prevent women and young women’s ex-prisoners effective reintegration into society.

Eagle Wings Youth Initiative (EYWI)
EWYI was established in 2016 by a group of marginalized girls and women, particularly LBQ women, in Tanzania in response to harassment from society and the Government. The group advocates for a reduction in stigma and discrimination with a focus on the reproductive health rights and social inclusion of LBQ women. The grant will help address violence and police brutality against LBQ women in Tanzania by training LBQ women to raise their voices and demand for their rights, establishing access to legal support for LBQ women in Tanzania.

CEDI was formed in March 2008 by Mrs. Onose Martha to restore hope to the marginalised and was founded on human rights, democracy, peace and development. The organisation aims to protect and promote the psychosocial well-being and/or prevent or treat stress. CEDI also strengthens the community’s resilience for peace and conflict prevention through capacity building and gender sensitive social mobilization. The grant will be used to build the knowledge and skills of marginalized women and girls to help prevent VAWG and enhance their mental health and wellbeing.

Centre for Women in Governance (CEWIGO) was established in 2006 by a group of women and men who shared a common vision of governance that affirms the principles of gender equality, integrity, accountability, sustainable development and peace. CEWIGO’s mission is to mobilize women and build their capacity to influence governance at all levels and to increase awareness that where women and men share equally in the generation and maintenance of good governance, the benefits accrue to all society. The grant will be used to strengthen the capacity of female leaders to effectively participate in electioneering as well as to enhance their knowledge and skills in governance and leadership positions.

CREAW is a women’s right organisation which was founded in 1998. The organisation champions, expands and actualizes women and girl’s rights and social justice in line with their vision of a society where women and girls enjoy full rights and live in dignity. CREAW will use the grant to build an effective financial management system which is expected to improve the short- and long-term organisational performance.

The grant will be used to implement the proposed project which seeks to contribute towards VAWG prevention and response during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
