PROGAMME OFFICER- GRANTS (SPECIAL INITIATIVES)<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\nDo you have experience of managing funding from governmental donor agencies?
\nAre you ready to contribute to building a cutting-edge grants portfolio advancing activism around African women\u2019s bodily rights, economic justice, political voice and leadership?<\/p>\n

Background<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The African Women\u2019s Development Fund (AWDF) is a pioneering grantmaking foundation headquartered in Ghana. AWDF was founded by and for African women. Since 2001 we have awarded over 26 million USD in grants to support leading women\u2019s rights organisations and feminist movements across Africa.<\/p>\n

As AWDF\u2019s grantmaking expands, we are looking for a dynamic, proactive and experienced Programme Officer – Grants who will work in the Grants Department to help grow our work and manage an exciting portfolio of grantees.<\/p>\n

She will need to be:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \u00a0knowledgeable about women\u2019s rights issues and organising in Africa<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0skilled at assessing and managing grants\/ project budgets to women\u2019s rights\n

    organisations, ideally in the context of grantmaking<\/li>\n

  • \u00a0experienced with bi and\/or multi-lateral funding<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0a good writer and critical thinker, with an analytical approach to information<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0a team player, who demonstrates the values and principles of feminism and social justice<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0an experienced programme officer\n

    Job Summary<\/p>\n

    As a Programme Officer, you will play a critical role in the Grants Department with a primary responsibility for grants assessment and management, outreach with the team to grow the grants portfolio, knowledge production in selected areas, and contributing to monitoring, learning and evaluation. Reporting to the Grants Manager, you will work in close collaboration with other Grants Programme Officers and Administrators, and with staff in communications, knowledge management, fundraising, finance, administration and overall management.<\/p>\n

    Working knowledge of French or Arabic will be an advantage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Specific Duties<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • \u00a0Grant making activities to support AWDF\u2019s grant processing, analysis and provision of technical support to grantees, including overseeing a portfolio of grants<\/li>\n
    • \u00a0Report writing and documentation of grantee\u2019s contributions, challenges and overall performance<\/li>\n
    • \u00a0Participation in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning and support to Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist<\/li>\n
    • \u00a0Support to AWDF\u2019s advocacy, outreach and communication functions<\/li>\n
    • \u00a0Participation and support for AWDF\u2019s fundraising activities<\/li>\n
    • \u00a0Any other reasonable duties assigned\n

      Essential Knowledge and Experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \n
      • \u00a0At least 7 years work experience in human rights\/ social justice\/ rights-based development<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0In depth understanding of feminism and strong commitment to social justice, women\u2019s rights and social change in Africa<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Experience of grantmaking and\/or project management of donor funds<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0High level of proficiency in MS Office required, experience of working with information\n

        management systems \/ databases preferred<\/li>\n

      • \u00a0Excellent planning and management skills<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Ability to work independently and part of a team<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Ability to work democratically with diverse groups and people.<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Ability to work to work to tight deadlines.<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Ability to travel within Africa\/ internationally essential<\/li>\n
      • \u00a0Willingness to work flexible working hours, occasionally outside of regular working hours\n

        are expected<\/p>\n

        Qualifications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \n
        • \u00a0Post-graduate degree in Gender, Women\u2019s Rights, or related discipline<\/li>\n
        • \u00a0Working knowledge of French or Arabic will be an advantage.\n
