Broadly<\/em>, a women focused website and digital video channel,\u00a0<\/span>has\u00a0debuted a short documentary on <\/span>Boxgirls Kenya<\/span><\/a>, a community outreach programme, that focuses on\u00a0young women and girls’ sexual and health rights.\u00a0<\/span>Founded in 2008 by professional boxers, Boxgirls Kenya uses boxing as a tool to tackle issues of sexual and gender based violence affecting young women and girls in marginalised communities in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

The programme has made significant strides, reaching over 1,200 girls in the community\u00a0while challenging negative perceptions about women and girls and breaking the silence on sexual abuse and violence.\u00a0In 2014, Boxgirls Kenya received a grant from the African Women’s Development Fund to support its Msomi project, which included training coaches, sexual abuse prevention education and an annual boxing tournament.<\/p>\n

The short documentary, dubbed “Nairobi’s Boxgirls Fight Back,” highlights their\u00a0work in\u00a0educating\u00a0young Kenyan women and girls about their rights while equipping them with skills to help defend themselves against violence.<\/span><\/p>\n
