S\/he will report to the FGM Program Manager.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will manage project activities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in East\u00a0Africa and Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali in West Africa with a focus on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Partnership support and capacity building;<\/li>\n<li>National, regional and international legal advocacy;<\/li>\n<li>Project Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting; and<\/li>\n<li>Media and communications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Partnership support<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<p>The Program Officer will support the Program Manager and the partners in the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identification of potential cases of violations of girls\u2019 rights through CEFM and FGM for\u00a0strategic impact litigation with the goal of setting legal precedents in collaboration with\u00a0partners;<\/li>\n<li>Provision of legal advice and support to partners in the selected strategic litigation cases\u00a0on CEFM and FGM either through domestic courts or using regional or international\u00a0mechanisms;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Legal Advocacy<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<p>The Program Officer will, under the guidance of the Program Manager:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support partners in the development and implementation of regional and international\u00a0advocacy strategies using regional and international human rights law and protocols;<\/li>\n<li>Organize training for lawyers on the use of international and regional human rights\u00a0mechanisms in litigation relating to HTPs;<\/li>\n<li>Establish and maintain contacts with organisations campaigning against CEFM and FGM\u00a0and;<\/li>\n<li>Generate and update Equality Now actions and alerts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project Implementation, monitoring and evaluation<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<p>In line with donor requirements and Equality Now commitments and systems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepare a work plan with partners and Equality Now team;<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the timely and effective implementation of project activities according to the\u00a0project proposal;<\/li>\n<li>Work with partners to ensure that activities are monitored and evaluated and also\u00a0identify specific challenges or successes that would interest the donor or partners;<\/li>\n<li>Provide timely, accurate reports on activities to donors including learning to inform\u00a0future activities to achieve project objective;<\/li>\n<li>In close collaboration with Equality Now\u2019s media and communications team represent Equality\u00a0Now to the media to raise public awareness of CEFM and FGM, and<\/li>\n<li>Support partners to increase visibility of CEFM and FGM in the media as a human rights\u00a0violation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Qualifications, skills and competencies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree in law\/ international law\/human rights law preferred;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of international and regional human rights framework and relevant UN and\u00a0African human rights mechanisms\/instruments;<\/li>\n<li>Strong understanding of and experience in working on international human rights law\u00a0with regional and international treaty monitoring bodies on issues of women\u2019s and girls\u2019\u00a0rights;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in training and facilitation;<\/li>\n<li>Skill and experience to effectively communicate and advocate for justice;<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in French and English required;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in and networking with civil society organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in promoting mutual learning and development of civil society organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in project management and strong organization to work effectively;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively within a multi-cultural team;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in monitoring and evaluation, particularly of legal\/social change processes<\/li>\n<li>Excellent analytical, conceptual, writing and editing skills and use of computer software;\u00a0and;<\/li>\n<li>Basic budgeting and accounting<\/li>\n<li>Experience in public speaking and media engagement;<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to travel relatively frequently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Salary<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Please send resume and cover letter, in either French or English, detailing how your\u00a0qualifications, skills and experience are relevant to the scope of work to:<\/p>\n<p>Applications Program Officer- Anti-Harmful Practices<\/p>\n<p>Equality Now Africa Regional Office<\/p>\n<p>P.O Box 2018-00202<\/p>\n<p>Nairobi, Kenya<\/p>\n<p>Fax: +254-20-2719913<\/p>\n<p>Email: <a href=\"mailto:equalitynownairobi@equalitynow.org\">equalitynownairobi@equalitynow.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Applications must reach Equality Now by <em><strong>October 15, 2015<\/strong><\/em>.
