{"id":5920,"date":"2015-07-13T16:01:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-13T16:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africlub.net\/awdf\/?p=5920"},"modified":"2015-07-22T13:40:29","modified_gmt":"2015-07-22T13:40:29","slug":"financing-for-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/awdf.org\/OldSite\/financing-for-development\/","title":{"rendered":"AWDF’s CEO Theo Sowa at the United Nations’ 3rd Financing for Development Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"The African Women\u2019s Development Fund (AWDF)\u00a0Chief Executive Officer Theo Sowa will be speaking at the 3rd International Conference on Financing for Development <\/a>,\u00a0taking place this week\u00a0from 13th-16th July,\u00a0in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Mainly, she will be participating in a panel discussion dubbed\u00a0‘Rethinking Philanthropy’s Contribution to the Financing for Development Agenda’<\/a>\u00a0 that centres on\u00a0how to\u00a0leverage and deploy philanthropic and public resources more efficiently to achieve the post 2015 agenda faster.<\/span><\/p>\n

She will also be representing AWDF at other side events coordinated by other participating organisations at the conference. The fist is\u00a0‘Supporting Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health in Post 2015’ organised by Advance Family Planning (AFP)<\/a>, an advocacy initiative designed to help developing countries achieve universal access to reproductive health.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following that is\u00a0the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s (IPPF)<\/a> discussion\u00a0‘The Addis Ababa Accord: Making it Meaningful for Women and Girls.’<\/a>\u00a0This event will explore the implications of the new Financing for Development agenda for women and girls\u2019 sexual and reproductive health and rights, in order to ensure that\u00a0the most marginalized women and girls are not left behind.<\/span><\/p>\n

AWDF has been actively involved in the Financing for Development agenda in Africa. Ahead of the July conference, AWDF, in partnership with the Post 2015 Women\u2019s Coalition and African Women\u2019s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), organised a regional strategic meeting for African feminist organisations.\u00a0Held in Nairobi, Kenya from 6th-8th May, the main aim of the regional meeting was to facilitate collective action and create a space for organizing \u00a0in anticipation of the upcoming July\u00a0conference.<\/span><\/p>\n
