The \u00a0\u201cAWDF African Women in Film Award\u201d<\/strong> \u00a0is intended to honour an African woman who has demonstrated through her work, measurable efforts to change the narrative and challenge stereotypes about \u00a0women on the continent.<\/span>\n\n

GMA\u2019s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAWDF announced the award May 21, at a Nominations Announcement ceremony in partnership with Golden Movie Awards (GMA), a newly launched pan-African award scheme, that seeks to honour individuals who have impacted and excelled in the African movie industry and have also embarked on humanitarian works in their countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

GMA’s\u00a0interest in building capacity within the film industry \u00a0and \u00a0special emphasis on women, \u00a0is one of the contributing factors for AWDF\u2019s decision to partner with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to build the cadre of skilled African women who can use the different art mediums to promote women\u2019s rights.\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Sarah Mukasa, Director of Programmes at AWDF, who made the announcement, said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The \u00a0AWDF award will be \u00a0part of GMA\u2019s award scheme that will reward industry beneficiaries in \u00a030 various prize categories.<\/span><\/p>\n
