{"id":5404,"date":"2015-05-27T13:45:53","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T13:45:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asdhostingservices.com\/awdf-2\/?p=5404"},"modified":"2015-07-10T13:20:13","modified_gmt":"2015-07-10T13:20:13","slug":"the-awdf-african-women-in-film-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/awdf.org\/OldSite\/the-awdf-african-women-in-film-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations Open for the AWDF African Women In Film Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<span lang=\"en\">The African Women\u2019s Development Fund (AWDF) African Women In Film Award is presented to an\u00a0African woman who has demonstrated through her work measurable efforts to change the narrative\u00a0and challenge stereotypes about African women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">This award reflects AWDF\u2019s commitment to raise the profile of African women, increase public\u00a0support for women\u2019s rights and social justice, and to facilitate platforms for African women\u2019s views\u00a0and achievements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\"><strong>Nomination Process<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nominee must be an African woman filmmaker, producer, writer, actress or content creator.<\/li>\n<li>The nominee must have demonstrated through their work measurable efforts to change negative\u00a0narrative and stereotypes about African women (work produced over the last 5 years).<\/li>\n<li>Nominations are open to the public. <strong>Nominations for this award close on June 3rd, 2015.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>To nominate a person<\/strong> for this award, go to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/goldenmovieawards.com\/\">goldenmovieawards.com<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Prize for the winner:<\/strong> GHS 5,000 cash, plaque and opportunity to participate as a resource\u00a0person in an African Women In Film Seminar scheduled for later this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"en\"><strong>OPPORTUNITY &#8211; African Women in Film Seminar<br \/>\n<\/strong>AWDF and Golden Movie Awards (GMA) will organise an African Women in Film Seminar, a one- day capacity building\u00a0programme that will bring together African women filmmakers, actresses, producers, writers and\u00a0content creators to share expert advice and provide mentoring for African women in the film\u00a0industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">AWDF recognizes the importance of the arts as a tool for social justice work and as a medium to\u00a0train, nurture and raise the profile of African women through their creative works and expression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">The aim is to build the cadre of skilled African women who can use the different art mediums to\u00a0promote women\u2019s rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span lang=\"en\"><em><strong>\u201cWe partnered with GMA because we see them as an innovative, emerging team seeking to raise the\u00a0barrier in terms standards\u00a0of excellence and production in the African movie industry.
