In 2003, Akin Omotoso, Robbie Thorpe and Kgomotso Matsunyane came\u00a0together to found T.O.M Pictures a production company based in Johannesburg, South\u00a0Africa. They have produced several feature films and have built a reputation as one of the\u00a0most progressive, creative and professional production companies in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n

T.O.M Pictures says that it runs on one simple philosophy: \u201cTo make content that reflects\u00a0the true nature of our African identity, and also to contribute to and participate in the\u00a0growth and understanding of South Africa and the African continent.\u201d\u00a0T.O.M. pictures believe in portraying strong women as lead characters. The\u00a0African Women\u2019s Development Fund (AWDF) recognizes the potential that the Arts hold\u00a0for shaping the way people perceive African women and as such has supported the\u00a0funding of intensive rehearsal and workshops for the actresses working on the film. The\u00a0film features several lead actresses including Nomzamo Mbatha, Thembi Seete, Mandisa\u00a0Bardill and Thishiwe Zigubu. The preparatory workshops were used to help prepare the\u00a0actresses for the film. The actresses had the opportunity to spend time with the Director\u00a0learning more about their roles and to work towards the development of a more organic\u00a0collectively owned script.<\/span><\/p>\n

AWDF cares about the successes of women artists around the continent, because\u00a0these creative minds are ones that have the capability to reach millions of people. We\u00a0believe in encouraging women to follow their dreams, and many dream of becoming\u00a0artists, writers, singers, actresses, etc. There is always a space for people with a talent and\u00a0drive to be seen and heard.<\/span><\/p>\n

AWDF is extremely proud to have been a part of this project. T.O.M Pictures has\u00a0begun shooting the film and we are looking forward to the final version.<\/span><\/p>\n
