{"id":3641,"date":"2014-06-26T17:53:49","date_gmt":"2014-06-26T17:53:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/?p=3641"},"modified":"2015-08-17T13:57:42","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T13:57:42","slug":"reflection-on-my-internship-at-awdf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/awdf.org\/OldSite\/reflection-on-my-internship-at-awdf\/","title":{"rendered":"Reflection on my internship at AWDF"},"content":{"rendered":"<span lang=\"en\">During my time here at AWDF, I have learned what it is to be a fragment within a functioning organization that has an aim to promote and create access for women within multiple facets of society. While editing various works, I have had the pleasure of reading a multitude of narratives on and by women who are not only creating space for their voices to be heard and bodies noticed; but I have also learned what a dream, funding, and drive can do to create sustainable change. These stories not only opened my eyes to the realities of the persistent gender based barriers still present in society; but also the women who are making it their mission to dismantle the systems in place that impede the progress of, and deny access to, women across the continent of Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">It has been a privilege to be able to work with an organization that not only seeks to provide funding, but also finds it integral to sustainable growth that their grantee organizations are provided with knowledge and skills to build and further develop their capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">While working as an intern for the Capacity Building Unit, I have been afforded an education that I doubt I would have been able to attain within the four walls of a classroom at my university. This hands-on experience has not only expanded my views on organizations that function like AWDF, but it has also provided me with comprehension on resource mobilization that will prove useful for organizations I am involved in at home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">I know without a doubt, that my time here at AWDF has now become a cardinal element of not only my academic growth\u2026 but also my ability to lead and work within organizations seeking to promote equity and empowerment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\">By: Avatara Smith \u2013 Carrington, Rutgers University, USA<\/span>\n<p>Pendant mon temps ici \u00e0 AWDF, j&#8217;ai appris ce que c&#8217;est d&#8217;\u00eatre un \u00e9l\u00e9ment\u00a0d&#8217;une organisation dynamique qui a un but de promouvoir et de cr\u00e9er l&#8217;acc\u00e8s des femmes au sein de multiples facettes de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Lors de l&#8217;\u00e9dition de divers travaux, je l&#8217;ai eu le plaisir de lire une multitude de r\u00e9cits sur et par les femmes qui ne sont pas seulement de cr\u00e9er un espace pour que leurs voix soient entendues et leurs organismes remarqu\u00e9s; mais j&#8217;ai aussi appris ce qu&#8217;est un r\u00eave, le financement, et le lecteur peuvent faire pour cr\u00e9er un changement durable. Ces histoires non seulement m&#8217;ont ouvert les yeux sur les r\u00e9alit\u00e9s des obstacles persistants entre les sexes sur des\u00a0bases encore pr\u00e9sentes dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9; mais aussi les femmes qui font leur mission de d\u00e9manteler les syst\u00e8mes en place qui entravent le progr\u00e8s, et refusent l&#8217;acc\u00e8s aux femmes \u00e0 travers le continent de l&#8217;Afrique.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cela\u00a0a \u00e9t\u00e9 un privil\u00e8ge de pouvoir travailler avec une organisation qui cherche non seulement \u00e0 fournir des fonds, mais qui se\u00a0trouve aussi partie int\u00e9grante de la croissance durable que leurs organisations b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiaires ont fournis avec les connaissances et les comp\u00e9tences n\u00e9cessaires pour construire et d\u00e9velopper davantage leurs capacit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tout en travaillant en tant que stagiaire pour l&#8217;Unit\u00e9 de renforcement des capacit\u00e9s, je me suis donn\u00e9 une \u00e9ducation dont\u00a0je doute que j&#8217;aurais pu atteindre dans les quatre murs d&#8217;une classe \u00e0 mon universit\u00e9.
