So you can imagine how excited I am that the filmmaker behind Notre Etrangere will be participating in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/browse\/3327\" target=\"_blank\">African Women in Film Forum (AWIFF)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en\"><figure id=\"attachment_3350\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3350\" style=\"width: 685px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Sarah-Bouyain-685x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Sarah Bouyain\" width=\"685\" height=\"1024\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image of Sarah Bouyain by Nyssos<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Best of all, Sarah&#8217;s film Notre Etrangere will be screened on Tuesday 24th September for free from 6pm at the NAFTI Preview Theatre at the NAFTI Hostel in Cantonments, Accra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Notree\u0301trange\u0300re-AFFR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3351\" src=\"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Notree\u0301trange\u0300re-AFFR-723x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Notree\u0301trange\u0300re-AFFR\" width=\"723\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On that same day, time and venue, I am also really looking forward to watching <a href=\"http:\/\/alutaanita.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anita Afonu&#8217;<\/a>s &#8216;Perished Diamonds&#8217;. In Yaba Badoe&#8217;s words,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;<em>The documentary relates the painful story of how the Ghana Film Industry Corporation (GFIC) was sold \u2013 or to use IMF jargon \u2018divested\u2019 \u2013 in 1997 to a Malaysian company for the sum of 1.23 million dollars. The idea behind the divestiture was to recapitalize GFIC before it was eventually returned to the state. The sale included all of the GFIC\u2019s assets, its studios and equipment and, most controversial of all, Ghana\u2019s film archive<\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It is heart breaking that we as Ghanaians have had so little regard for commemorating our history and allowed our film archives to be destroyed.\u00a0 The poster created below captures the failure in leadership in allowing this sad situation to occur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Perished-Diamonds-Poster.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3352\" src=\"http:\/\/www.africlub.net\/awdf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Perished-Diamonds-Poster.png\" alt=\"Perished-Diamonds-Poster\" width=\"800\" height=\"562\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The screening of Notre Etrangere and Perished Diamonds will be followed by a question and answer session with Sarah Bouyain and Anita Afonu facilitated by Anita Erskine of Brand Woman Africa, a sponsor of the 2nd AWIFF.
