Public Events
\n<\/b>Every year, the AWDF hosts public events to honour the progress in the fight for gender equality. (For example, we\u2019ve collaborated with Brand Woman Africa and Alliance Fran\u00e7aise<\/b> to launch visual art installations, book readings and discussions, music, and more.)<\/span><\/p>\n\n

African Women Writers
\n<\/b>We support and encourage African women writers to build community, share skills, and amplify each others\u2019 voices. That\u2019s why the AWDF\u00a0supports writing masterclasses<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(led by prominent African writers such as\u00a0Ama Ata Aidoo<\/b><\/a>,\u00a0Yewande Omotoso<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mamle Kabu<\/b><\/a>), and collaborates with groups like\u00a0FEMRITE Uganda<\/b><\/a>\u00a0to co-organise writing residencies.\u00a0Find out more about AWDF\u2019s\u00a0first non-fiction writers workshop<\/a>\u00a0held in Uganda in 2014 or consider applying for our 2015 workshop.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n\n

\n<\/b>Creative audio-visual content can tell radical, evocative stories. The AWDF\u2019s \u201cAfrican Women in Film Forum\u201d provides an opportunity for filmmakers and other cultural producers to engage and develop strategic alliances within and across borders. As an example, of our work in this area, in 2014, the AWDF released\u00a0The Art of Ama Ata Aidoo<\/i><\/a>, a documentary on the life and work of Ghanaian author\u00a0Ama Ata Aidoo<\/b>. The film portrays her relationship with mentor Efua Sutherland, fellow writers Mariama Ba and Buchi Emecheta, and more.<\/span>\n\n
