Rissi has been with the African Women’s Development Fund for almost 12 years and has extensive experience in grant making, working with NGO’s, movement building and women’s organizations in French-speaking Africa.
“Margaret Cesay, who organized the event, is an activist who has a passion to promote women’s empowerment and is committed to celebrating their achievements,” Rissi said. “I just thought it was an ordinary evening outing.”
When Veronica Sackey, headmistress of Dzorwulu Special School, who has been teaching children with intellectual disability for close to 36 years, was presented with an award for her contribution to society, Rissi was moved.
“ I thought wow, these are some special women,” she said.
But to her surprise, Rissi herself was called up and given a medal of honor for her contribution to women’s empowerment.
“I feel very humbled that my little efforts have been acknowledged because I believe there are so many other women in Africa, Ghana, Benin…who are doing work in their own little spaces to ensure that women live in a world where there is peace, security and social justice, but their efforts are not recognized or they are not even visible,” Rissi said.
Rissi is passionate about women’s rights and leadership issues and has spent a substantial part of her life promoting women’s rights and social justice.
“This is a commendation of AWDF also,” she said, “because it’s through them that I l got my visibility and through them that I learned to speak out for women. And I am grateful for that.”
According to Fiesta Royale, the event is part of its corporate social responsibility to support and motivate women’s achievements in Ghana.
We at AWDF are thrilled about this recognition and say a big congratulations and thank you to Rissi for her dedication over the years.
Ayeeko.
CONGRATULATIONS RISSI!!!
