Solidarity Fund
The Solidarity Fund has been established in order to create an additional source of funding for current or potential AWDF grantees, to enable them engage in activities which promote learning and the sharing of experiences on a local, national and international level. To this end, the Solidarity Fund will support African women to participate in exchange visits, conferences, seminars and workshops, thereby providing valuable opportunities for networking and information, all of which are vital to the strengthening of the African women’s movement.
The Objectives of the Solidarity Fund are:
- To enhance networking opportunities, and facilitate the sharing of skills and knowledge between organisations across the region and internationally.
- To support feminist activists, scholars and practitioners who are contributing to significant long-term changes in the Africa region.
- To give women’s rights activists voice and visibility at various levels of decision making at local, national, regional and international levels.
- To encourage the participation of young African women in national, regional and global women’s movements.
The Solidarity Fund is for the following target groups:
- Local, national, sub-regional or regional African women’s organisations, from any part of Africa who are seeking funding for representatives to attend strategic workshops, seminars or conferences within or outside the Africa region. Meetings within the Africa region will be given priority.
- Exchange and learning visits to peer organisations in another country. Examples of what can be supported include an organisation in Ghana working on violence against women, wishing to learn from strategies used by similar organisations in South Africa.
- Whilst other organisations are encouraged to apply, priority will be given to current grantees of AWDF, or those organisations which would usually qualify to receive a grant from AWDF.
Frequency of grant-making:
Applications to the Solidarity Fund can be sent in at any time, and must be received at least three months before the identified activity.
